Zapadnaya Litsa (Russian: Западная Лица) is the most significant and largest naval base for Russia's Northern Fleet. Located in the northernmost part of Russia, it sits on the Litsa Fjord at the western edge of the Kola Peninsula, roughly 45 kilometers from the Norwegian border, with geographical coordinates of 69°25′N, 32°26′E. The base comprises four naval installations: Malaya Lopatka, the first established and the home port of the renowned Soviet submarine K-3, as well as Andreyeva Bay, Bolshaya Lopatka, and Nerpichya. Currently, the Zapadnaya Litsa area is a major environmental concern due to extensive radioactive waste deposits.
