Genuine Soviet medal commemorates WW2 with original brass pentagon top part and new ribbon; some bits of rust at the back. The medal was in a soda solution to remove rust as much as possible, then polished with GOI paste.

The medal was a 32-mm-diameter circular brass medal with a raised rim.
Secured by a ring through the medal suspension loop to a standard Soviet pentagonal mount covered by a 24mm wide silk moire ribbon.
The Medal for the Defence of the Caucasus was worn on the left side of the chest in the presence of other awards of the USSR.
